High School student wears bulletproof vest to school following bullying incidents

“This is a bulletproof vest, but it's not a vest it's much more of a shirt with kevlar plates. When I got this, I didn’t wear jerseys anymore, I would wear a baggy shirt or hoody so that the kids wouldn’t see it,” explained Eyan.
Eyan says he’s been bullied most of his academic career, however, when he got to high school, it intensified.

His father, James Bayliss, shared a video of his son getting beat up by multiple male students back in January while attending Basic High School. In it, you can see Eyan walking away from his attackers as blood dripped from his mouth and his nose.However, Eyan says when he started wearing the bullet and knife-proof vest to school, it made him less fearful.

“With this, you would be safe, and you wouldn’t have to worry about getting hurt,” he said.Clark County School District released a report earlier this year revealing the number of confiscation weapons from its campuses last school year.

It says from August 2021 through May 2022, there were 31 handguns confiscated, one long gun and 33 air guns, and 174 knives.

Eyan’s father, Mr. Bayliss, says with recent the vest gave his family a piece of mind

“You don’t know if you’re gonna get a phone call if the school shootings happen or if your kid got shot or if your kids getting beat up. Since the 5th grade, I’ve been worried about every time that phone rings what happened now,” said Mr. Bayliss.
